Successful POEM for Achalasia Cardia via Anterior Approach
We are pleaed to announce that last week at GI-One Hospital, we successfully performed a Per Oral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) using the Anterior approach in a patient with sigmoid esophagus. The procedure went smoothly, and the patient was discharged on postoperative day 2.
With this case, we have now completed 40 POEM procedures at our center — all previously via the Posterior approach, including patients with prior Laparoscopic Heller’s myotomy, with consistently excellent outcomes.
🔹 Posterior POEM: Technically easier, as the prominent spine provides a clear landmark in a dilated esophagus.
🔹 Anterior POEM: More challenging — multiple vascular indentations and pulsations demand careful preservation of longitudinal muscles during myotomy. Scope manipulation is also trickier, particularly during mucosal closure.
GI-One Hospital is well-equipped to manage patients with Achalasia Cardia through endoscopic therapy for achalasia Cardia , as well as laparoscopic surgery for those not suitable for endoscopic procedures.
Regards,
Team GI-One
